Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has charged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to justify the confidence reposed in them by Nigerians by contributing meaningfully to the success of the 2027 general elections and nation-building.
Fubara gave the charge on Friday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam, in Tai Local Government Area of the state, while declaring open the 2026 Batch C Stream II orientation course.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Promise Oguzie, the governor assured the corps members of his administration’s commitment to prioritising their security and welfare throughout their service year.
He urged them to reciprocate the love, support and goodwill of Rivers people by working diligently and selflessly to make a positive impact in the state.
Fubara also urged the corps members to see their service year as an opportunity to contribute to the development of the country and leave the state better than they met it.
Speaking at the event, the Rivers State NYSC Coordinator, Mr Moses Oleghe, said the 2026 Batch C Stream II corps members represented the largest number ever deployed to the state.
According to him, the high number was partly due to the attractive welfare packages available to corps members serving in Rivers State.
Oleghe, however, appealed to the state government to urgently address accommodation challenges at the orientation camp, saying existing facilities had been overstretched.
He called for the mobilisation of contractors to commence work on the approved 1,000-capacity hostels for male and female corps members.
The NYSC coordinator also urged the corps members to uphold neutrality, patriotism, integrity, honesty and transparency, particularly when deployed as ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the 2027 elections.
He said adherence to these values would help strengthen Nigeria’s democracy and promote the emergence of credible leadership.
A total of 4,485 corps members deployed to Rivers State were sworn in by Justice Victor Ugorji, who represented the Chief Judge of the state.
