The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has urged personnel of the Corps to uphold integrity and professionalism in the discharge of their duties, declaring that corruption remains a major threat to effective service delivery.
Speaking in Abuja during the induction of 100 officers of the Corps' Anti-Fraud Unit drawn from formations across the country, Prof. Audi said integrity was indispensable to the NSCDC's mandate of protecting lives and property, maintaining public order and promoting community safety.
He warned that fraud and corruption undermine operational efficiency, erode public confidence and damage the reputation of public institutions, stressing that the Corps would continue to enforce a zero-tolerance policy against unethical conduct.
According to the Commandant General, the induction programme underscores the NSCDC's commitment to strengthening accountability, transparency and ethical standards among its personnel.
Prof. Audi noted that officers entrusted with anti-fraud responsibilities must serve as role models by demonstrating honesty, discipline and dedication in carrying out investigations and other official assignments.
Earlier, the Head of the Anti-Fraud Unit, Commandant of Corps Emeribe Chinyere Victory, said the unit remained committed to promoting integrity and accountability within the organisation through proactive detection, prevention and investigation of corrupt practices involving personnel and contractors.
She recalled that the Anti-Fraud Unit was established in 2007 and received its initial training at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Institute in 2008, adding that successive leaderships had continued to strengthen its capacity through regular training and institutional support.
Emeribe commended the Commandant General for providing an enabling environment that allows the unit to carry out its responsibilities without interference, describing the support as critical to the unit's effectiveness.
The event also featured the unveiling of two books authored by Dr. Emeribe, The Dark Side of Duty and The Anti-Fraud Lexicon, which were reviewed by retired Assistant Commandant General Hammed Abodurin.
Goodwill messages were delivered by representatives of major security and intelligence agencies, including the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, the National Intelligence Agency, the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Correctional Service, who commended the NSCDC's efforts to strengthen institutional integrity and combat corruption within its ranks.
