Military Bombards Suspected Terrorist Camp in Zamfara

Nigerian troops under Operation FANSAN YANMA have intensified the offensive against armed groups in Zamfara State, carrying out coordinated airstrikes on a suspected terrorist hideout in Yankuzo community, Tsafe Local Government Area, with several fighters reportedly killed.

Local sources said the operation was conducted on the evening of September 7, when five military aircraft allegedly carried out multiple strikes on identified targets within the community.

The air assault reportedly hit suspected terrorist positions, killing a number of fighters, although security authorities have yet to confirm the exact casualty figure.

Among those reportedly killed was a suspected terrorist identified as Isiya Gurgu, described as a close associate of notorious bandit leader Musa Commander, who is believed to have links with the Ado Aleru criminal network.

Sources also claimed Musa Commander operates from several terrorist-controlled communities, including Tsamiya and neighbouring settlements, where armed groups have maintained a strong presence.

Witnesses said the military appeared to have taken measures to minimise civilian casualties by targeting only individuals allegedly carrying weapons or dressed in military-style clothing during the operation.

Several other suspected terrorists were also said to have sustained injuries in the strikes, while survivors reportedly fled into nearby forests.

Yankuzo has long been regarded as one of the strongholds of armed groups linked to the Ado Aleru network, with residents repeatedly complaining of attacks, kidnappings and other violent activities.

Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the operation, while further details are expected as authorities assess the outcome of the airstrikes.
