The Federal Government has announced plans to provide Nigerian students with 100 megabytes (MB) of free daily data to access approved educational websites and digital learning platforms from October 1, 2026.

The initiative will benefit students in government senior secondary schools and universities across the country.

Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja at the launch of the Initiative for Zero-Rated Access to Educational Platforms and Content in Nigeria.

According to Alausa, the initiative is being implemented by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in partnership with telecommunications operators and the Federal Ministry of Education.

The free daily data allocation is expected to enable students to access approved online educational resources and digital learning platforms without bearing the cost of data for such services.

The initiative forms part of the Federal Government's efforts to expand digital access to education and reduce the financial barriers limiting students' participation in online learning.

The government said the zero-rated access would help improve students' access to digital educational content and support the integration of technology into teaching and learning.
