The Nigerian Army has approved a major reshuffle of its senior leadership, redeploying several major generals and brigadier generals to strategic command, operational and staff positions aimed at strengthening the Service's operational effectiveness.
The postings, approved by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, are designed to reinforce leadership across critical formations and align the Army's command structure with Nigeria's evolving security challenges.
Announcing the changes on Wednesday, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said the exercise was carefully planned to place experienced officers in key appointments where they could deliver improved operational results.
As part of the reshuffle, Major General IA Ajose was appointed Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, after moving from the Army Headquarters Department of Army Operations.
Major General AE Abubakar was redeployed from Operation HADIN KAI to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre as Dean of the Faculty of Operational Research, while Major General AM Alechenu also joined the centre from Defence Headquarters Garrison.
Major General RT Utsaha was posted to Defence Headquarters Garrison as Commander, while Major General AM Umar became Commandant of the Army War College Nigeria. Major General UM Alkali, in turn, moved to the Department of Civil-Military Affairs.
The reshuffle also saw Major General GS Muhammed appointed Director General of the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation, while Major General JE Osifo became Chairman of the Military Pension Board. Major General IE Ekpenyong was posted to Defence Headquarters as Director of Engineering Services.
Among the brigadier generals affected, Brigadier General AA Bello was redeployed to the Defence Headquarters Department of Defence Operations, Brigadier General MS Adamu was appointed Commander of the newly established 8 Brigade, while Brigadier General MS Sule took over command of the 27 Task Force Brigade.
Brigadier General I Sule was posted as Commander of 6 Division Garrison, while Brigadier General E Azenda assumed command of 2 Division Garrison. Brigadier General AS Bugaje was redeployed to the Land Forces Simulation Centre as Director of Administration.
Lieutenant General Shaibu urged the newly appointed commanders to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating exemplary leadership, professionalism, innovation and unwavering commitment to duty. He also charged them to remain focused on defending Nigeria's sovereignty, protecting its territorial integrity and supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security.
The Army said the redeployments reflect its commitment to sustaining a dynamic leadership structure capable of enhancing operational performance, improving joint and inter-agency collaboration, and responding effectively to emerging security threats across the country.
