The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Rivers State Command, has commenced an investigation into the fatal shooting of a man allegedly by one of its operatives at Ukukalama-Ama, Fimie, in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.
In a press statement issued on Thursday by the Command's Public Relations Officer, SC Ihemnacho Umeado, the Corps expressed its condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased over the tragic incident.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Ukukalama-Ama, Fimie, and has raised serious concerns over the growing menace of cultism, criminal activities and the circumstances surrounding the victim's death.
The Command acknowledged that the incident had generated public concern and emotions, stressing the need for transparency and accountability in addressing the matter.
It reaffirmed the Corps' commitment to upholding the law and protecting the lives and property of citizens across the state.
The statement disclosed that the State Commandant, Dr. Dennis Lesor Reuben, has directed the Command's Intelligence and Investigation Department to immediately commence a comprehensive internal investigation into the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident.
The NSCDC also said it is collaborating with relevant authorities to ensure that the investigation is conducted fairly, impartially and professionally
Dr. Reuben appealed to residents to remain calm and refrain from engaging in violent protests or actions capable of escalating tension, assuring that the outcome of the investigation would be made public.
The Command reiterated its sympathy to the bereaved family and reaffirmed its commitment to justice, accountability and the safety of communities across Rivers State.
