The Premier League has released the fixtures for the 2026/27 season, with newly promoted Coventry City set for a daunting return to the top flight against reigning champions Arsenal in the opening match of the campaign.
Coventry, back in the Premier League for the first time in 25 years, will travel to the Emirates Stadium on Friday, August 21, for the season curtain-raiser. Arsenal enter the new campaign as defending champions after ending their 22-year title drought under manager Mikel Arteta.
Promoted side Hull City will begin their campaign at home against Manchester United on Saturday, August 22, while Ipswich Town host Sunderland in another clash involving newly promoted teams.
Manchester City will start a new era without long-serving manager Pep Guardiola when they welcome Bournemouth to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, August 23. Bournemouth will also begin the season under new leadership following the appointment of Marco Rose.
Liverpool\'s first Premier League outing under new manager Andoni Iraola will be away to Newcastle United, while Chelsea, now led by Xabi Alonso, travel across west London to face Fulham on Monday, August 24.
The 2026/27 Premier League season will commence 34 days after the FIFA World Cup final in the United States and conclude on May 30, 2027. The adjusted calendar reflects scheduling changes necessitated by the World Cup.
A total of nine Premier League clubs will compete in European competitions next season, equalling the league\'s record. Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Liverpool have secured UEFA Champions League places, while Bournemouth, Sunderland and Crystal Palace will feature in the Europa League. Brighton will compete in the UEFA Conference League.
The Premier League also confirmed several officiating and competition changes for the new season. Referees will adopt revised guidelines on hair-pulling incidents, with greater emphasis placed on intent and the level of force before issuing red cards.
Match officials will also be instructed to take a stricter approach to holding and grappling inside penalty areas, particularly during corners and set-pieces.
In a bid to curb time-wasting, goalkeepers who delay restarts from goal-kicks may face a new sanction. Referees will be permitted to begin a five-second countdown, with the opposition awarded a corner kick if the goalkeeper fails to restart play within the allotted time.
The league has also retained measures aimed at reducing fixture congestion, including ensuring that no two rounds of matches are played within 60 hours of each other during the festive period.
