NFF Launches Probe Into National Teams’ Poor Performances

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has set up a six-member fact-finding committee to investigate the disappointing performances of the country's national football teams in recent international competitions.

In a statement issued  in Abuja, the federation said the committee would focus particularly on the Super Falcons' failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil.

The Super Falcons, who are 10-time Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) champions and the continent's reigning champions, crashed out of the ongoing 2026 WAFCON in Morocco at the quarter-final stage.

Nigeria's hopes of reaching the World Cup were further dashed after the team suffered a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the playoff for a place in the Inter-Confederation Playoffs scheduled for later this year.

The outcome means Nigeria will miss the FIFA Women's World Cup for the first time since the tournament was introduced in 1991.

Former NFF General Secretary, Fanny Amun, will chair the committee, while former Flying Eagles coach and President of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association, Ladan Bosso, is among its members.

Other members include former Super Falcons captain, Desire Oparanozie, ex-Super Eagles captain Mutiu Adepoju, former FIFA referee Alex Mana and the General Secretary of the Nigeria Referees Association, Nasir Sa'idu, who will serve as secretary.

The NFF said the committee has been tasked with identifying the causes of the national teams' recent struggles and recommending practical measures to improve Nigeria's performances in future international competitions.
