Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that soldiers are planning to stop him from entering Osun State as residents vote in Saturday's governorship election.
The singer made the claim in a post on his verified X account, insisting that every Nigerian has the constitutional right to move freely across the country.
"I've been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun today. This won't happen. Every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point in time," he wrote.
Davido's allegation comes amid heightened security across Osun, where thousands of security personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order during the election.
The Nigeria Police Force had earlier announced a statewide restriction of movement from midnight on Friday until 6 p.m. on Saturday as part of security measures for the governorship poll.
The music star, who is a nephew of Governor Ademola Adeleke, has played an active role in the governor's re-election campaign under the Accord Party.
Governor Adeleke is seeking a second term in office against the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji, and other contenders.
Davido's post quickly generated widespread reactions on social media, with supporters and critics expressing differing opinions over his claims.
While some users argued that any security checks would be part of the general movement restrictions imposed for the election, others questioned whether the singer was being singled out.
Reacting to the allegation, former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad dismissed the claim, describing it as an overreaction.
Ahmad noted that the restriction of movement had already been announced by security agencies and is a routine measure adopted during elections to ensure peaceful and credible polls.
He added that the constitutional right to freedom of movement does not exempt citizens from complying with lawful security directives issued for election day.
