The Ogun State Police Command has stepped up efforts to rescue five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Sapaade, who were abducted by suspected gunmen from a private hostel in the Ipara-Remo area of the state.

The Command's spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed on Thursday that the abduction occurred on Wednesday night, prompting a swift response by the police and other security agencies after a distress call was received.

According to him, tactical units and intelligence operatives have been deployed to track down the kidnappers, rescue the victims safely and bring those responsible to justice.

Babaseyi assured residents that all available security resources had been mobilised to ensure the students were rescued unharmed, urging the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of disrupting ongoing operations.

He also appealed to residents to report suspicious movements through the Gateway Shield toll-free line, 0800 000 9111, or the emergency numbers 09164859299 and 09154293464.

Meanwhile, the Students' Union Government of Gateway ICT Polytechnic confirmed that five students were kidnapped during the attack on a private hostel along Paraga Road in Ipara-Remo.

The SUG President, Timothy Akinpelu, said the armed men stormed the hostel at about 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday and operated for nearly 30 minutes before escaping with the victims.

He described the hostel as being located in a remote area surrounded by thick vegetation, making it highly vulnerable to criminal attacks and unsuitable for student accommodation.

Akinpelu revealed that several students narrowly escaped by breaking through the POP ceiling of the building, while five others were unable to flee and were taken away by the attackers.

The students' union said the incident had been reported to the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies, expressing confidence that intensified security operations would secure the safe release of the abducted students while improving protection around off-campus hostels.
