Police Probe Alleged Assault of Inspector by Area Commander

The Gombe State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged assault of a police inspector, Ibrahim Musa, by an Area Commander, ACP Alex Gwaza.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the development, saying the Commissioner of Police had directed the Criminal Investigation Department, CID, to conduct a full and transparent investigation.

Abdullahi said the command was aware of the allegation but noted that conflicting accounts had been presented by the inspector and the Area Commander.

According to him, Musa alleged that he was assaulted after being detained for two days over an alleged disobedience of an official directive issued by Gwaza.

The police spokesman said the Area Commander’s directive and the circumstances surrounding the inspector’s alleged disobedience would form part of the investigation.

He, however, stressed that disciplinary action against any police officer must follow due process and that the ongoing probe would establish what actually transpired.

Abdullahi declined to comment on specific allegations against Gwaza, saying doing so could prejudice the investigation.

He assured that the CID would provide the full details of the incident after completing its investigation, adding that the command was committed to a transparent process.
