Veteran Nollywood actor Francis Duru has died at the age of 57 following a brief illness.
The actor’s family announced his death in a statement shared on his verified Instagram account, expressing regret over the loss.
“We, the family of Francis Duru, regret to announce his passing following a brief illness.
“We appreciate your prayers, love, and understanding. May his soul rest in peace. Amen,” the statement read.
The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Abubakar Yakubu, also confirmed the actor’s death in a tribute posted on the guild’s Instagram page.
“Another great thespian is gone. Rest in peace, Francis Duru,” the guild wrote.
Duru was a respected figure in the Nigerian film industry, celebrated for his memorable performances and contributions to Nollywood over the years.
He rose to prominence through his role in the 1995 Nigerian film *Rattlesnake* and went on to feature in several other notable Nollywood productions.
His death marks the loss of one of the actors whose performances helped shape the growth and popularity of Nigeria’s film industry.
