Bandits have attacked three communities in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing two residents, injuring another and abducting 26 people.
The Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KadVS) disclosed this in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Yunusa Shehu.
Shehu said the attacks occurred in Tunburku, Tudun Amada and Kallon Kura communities, while the assailants also rustled cattle belonging to residents during separate incidents.
According to him, the bandits attacked Tunburku in Kidandan District and Tudun Amada in Kadage District almost simultaneously in the early hours of Monday.
He said two residents, identified as Alhaji Surajo and Alhaji Ado, were killed during the attack on Tunburku, while 26 residents were abducted in Tudun Amada.
Shehu added that another resident, Ayyuba Usman, sustained injuries in the attacks, which occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on Monday.
In a separate incident, the bandits reportedly invaded Kura in Danmahawayi District at about 9 p.m. on Saturday and rustled cattle belonging to residents.
Shehu said the number of cattle initially reported stolen was put at between 15 and 17, adding that efforts were ongoing to establish the actual figure.
He further disclosed that the attackers later invaded Kallon Kura in Danmahawayi District, where they also rustled cattle before security personnel mobilised to the area.
Acting on intelligence about the movement of the bandits and the stolen livestock, KadVS personnel launched a pursuit and engaged the attackers in a gun battle.
The operatives reportedly forced the bandits to retreat and abandon the cattle before fleeing the area.
A security source said the personnel recovered 19 cattle from the attackers at about midnight on Saturday, September 5.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of the KadVS Sector Coordinator in Giwa LGA, who led the team during the recovery exercise.
Contacted for confirmation, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansur Hassan, said he would call back after obtaining further details on the incidents.
However, Hassan had yet to provide further clarification as of the time of filing this report.
