The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, over comments allegedly threatening members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday's governorship election in the state.
The command's spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed on Wednesday that the senator had been invited by the Commissioner of Police in charge of the election, Samuel Etaifo, following the circulation of a viral video.
"I can confirm that he has been summoned by the Commissioner of Police. We will issue a statement on the matter," Ojelabi said.
Fadahunsi and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo Otin Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, Francis Eniade, came under criticism after separate videos surfaced online in which they allegedly made inflammatory remarks ahead of the governorship poll.
In one of the videos, Fadahunsi, speaking in Yoruba, was heard making comments interpreted by critics as threatening violence against members of the Accord Party in Ilesa.
In another video, Eniade allegedly warned that non-APC supporters, particularly Accord Party members, should not come out to vote in Odo Otin Local Government Area on election day, insisting that all votes in the area belonged to the APC.
The remarks drew widespread condemnation, with Governor Ademola Adeleke describing Fadahunsi's comments as dangerous and capable of inciting violence.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo, the governor said he had reported the matter to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and called for the senator's immediate investigation and arrest.
Adeleke said the IGP acknowledged the existence of the viral video and assured him that appropriate action would be taken.
The governor further described the alleged comments as a national security concern requiring urgent attention from security agencies and the Federal Government.
According to sources, Fadahunsi made the controversial remarks at the palace of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland in Ilesa during a protest organised over the alleged killing of three APC members in the town on Tuesday.
However, the senator has denied threatening members of the Accord Party, insisting that his comments were taken out of context.
In a statement personally signed by him, Fadahunsi alleged that the viral clip circulating on social media was selectively edited to misrepresent his speech.
He claimed the original address lasted about 24 minutes and was made in response to the killing of an individual identified as Rogba in Esa-Oke, stressing that his message was that his party would defend its members if attacks continued.
The senator accused popular musician Davido and lawyer Pelumi Olajengbesi of circulating an edited version of the speech to create a false impression and score political points.
The police have yet to announce whether any further action will be taken after the senator honours the invitation.
