Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to strengthening the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme through sustained support aimed at improving the welfare and experience of corps members posted to the state.
The governor gave the assurance on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch B Stream II orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Promise Oguzie, Fubara said his administration would remain deliberate in providing the resources and enabling environment needed for the effective operation of the scheme.
He urged the newly deployed corps members to distinguish themselves through discipline, dedication and commitment to service, while making the most of the orientation programme.
"I charge you to be exemplary, dedicated and committed in all you do. Take full advantage of all the camp programmes and activities to enrich yourselves," the governor said.
Fubara also encouraged the corps members to become worthy ambassadors of national unity and contribute meaningfully to the development of Rivers State and Nigeria throughout their service year.
In his welcome address, the Rivers State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Moses Oleghe, described the deployment of corps members to the state as an opportunity to contribute to its growth and development.
He advised the participants to uphold integrity, discipline and the fear of God in the discharge of their responsibilities, particularly as many of them may be engaged as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ad hoc staff during the 2027 general elections.
A total of 3,584 corps members comprising 1,421 males and 2,163 females were sworn in during the ceremony by the Chief Judge of Rivers State, represented by Justice Godspower Aguma.
The event marked the formal commencement of the orientation exercise, with state officials expressing confidence that the corps members would make positive contributions to their host communities while promoting national unity and development.
