Senior ISWAP Finance Chief Surrenders to Troops as Terrorists Continue to Lay Down Arms

The Nigerian military has recorded another significant success in the fight against insurgency in the North-East following the surrender of a senior finance operative of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) to troops of Operation HADIN KAI.

The Theatre Command disclosed that the suspect surrendered to troops of the 3 Battalion under the 24 Task Force Brigade at about 6:45 a.m. on July 25, 2026, along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis on the Gamboru–Wulgo Main Supply Route. The surrender comes amid sustained land and air offensives against terrorist enclaves across the region.

According to the military, preliminary profiling revealed that the surrendered insurgent served as the chief finance operative of the ISWAP enclave at Jubillaram, where he oversaw the group's financial operations and logistics network. He reportedly surrendered alongside his two male children.

Items recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one motorcycle and ₦40,000 in cash. The military said the suspect is currently undergoing detailed profiling and interrogation to obtain intelligence that could aid ongoing operations against remaining terrorist elements.

Operation HADIN KAI noted that the surrender of such a high-ranking finance operative represents a major blow to ISWAP's operational structure and logistics network. It added that the development reflects increasing pressure on terrorist groups as a result of sustained kinetic and intelligence-driven operations across the North-East.

The command also revealed that about 46 terrorists and their family members have voluntarily surrendered to troops in recent days, describing the trend as evidence of growing disillusionment within terrorist ranks. It urged remaining insurgents to embrace the Federal Government's non-kinetic initiatives by laying down their arms, while calling on members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
