Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has imposed a 16-hour curfew in 10 local government areas of the state bordering the Old Oyo National Park as part of efforts to address emerging security concerns in the affected communities.

The curfew, which will run from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. daily, takes effect from Wednesday and is expected to remain in force for an initial period of two days.

The directive was contained in a memo issued on Tuesday evening in Ibadan by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, who said the measure was necessary to safeguard lives and property in the affected areas.

The local government areas under the restriction include Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West and Saki East, with their headquarters in Ikoyi-Ile, Igboho, Kisi, Saki and Ago-Amodu respectively.

Others affected are Atisbo Local Government Area with headquarters in Tede/Ago-Are, Itesiwaju with headquarters in Otu, Iseyin, Olorunsogo with headquarters in Igbeti, and Atiba Local Government Area, covering Offa-Meta in Oyo town.

Residents of the affected areas have been urged to comply fully with the curfew order and cooperate with security agencies as the state government intensifies efforts to maintain peace, security and public order across the affected border communities.
