President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the appointment of Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa (Rtd) as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, in a move aimed at reinforcing Nigeria’s internal security coordination and intelligence framework.

The appointment was announced in a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, CON, and issued through the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, mni. According to the statement, the decision reflects the administration’s determination to enhance inter-agency collaboration, strengthen intelligence-led operations, and improve responses to evolving security challenges across the country.

Major General Fadewa (Rtd) brings over thirty years of distinguished military and intelligence experience. Throughout his career, he was involved in national security strategy, counter-terrorism operations, intelligence coordination, and international security engagements, contributing significantly to the protection of Nigeria’s territorial integrity and national interests.

Between 2015 and 2021, he served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). During that period, he played a key role in advancing Nigeria’s intelligence coordination structure and was instrumental in establishing the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC). The centre was designed to integrate efforts of key security and intelligence agencies, including the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces, thereby improving threat analysis and operational synergy.

After retiring from active military service, Major General Fadewa continued to contribute to national security discourse as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja. He has authored strategic policy works, including the monograph “Policing and National Security in Nigeria,” which outlines approaches to strengthening cooperation between civilian and security institutions.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new Special Adviser will support ongoing efforts to enhance homeland security coordination, intelligence integration, and proactive risk management in line with the administration’s broader security objectives. He encouraged him to apply his experience and expertise toward advancing the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and promoting a safer Nigeria.
