The Rivers State Screening Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed as false a viral list circulating online, which allegedly contains the names of aspirants cleared and disqualified for the party’s House of Assembly primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The list, which spread across social media and some news platforms over the weekend, reportedly included aspirants said to be aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubara and allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. It further claimed that certain aspirants had been disqualified while others were cleared after the screening exercise.
However, the Secretary of the Screening Committee, Hon. Tanko Yamowa, in a statement issued on Sunday, described the publication as unauthorized and misleading, stressing that it did not originate from the party.
He stated that the attention of the party leadership had been drawn to the circulation of the purported list, adding that it was false and should be disregarded.
Yamowa explained that the screening exercise, conducted by the committee chaired by Mauriana Ajibola, had been concluded less than 24 hours before the list began circulating, making any official release at that time impossible.
The committee maintained that no official results had been published and assured that verified information regarding the status of aspirants would be communicated through the appropriate APC channels in line with established procedures.
It also warned against the spread of unverified information, describing it as an attempt by certain individuals to create confusion and tension within the party.
The APC reiterated its commitment to transparency, fairness, and due process in the conduct of its screening and primary election processes.
The clarification follows reports alleging that about 32 aspirants believed to be loyal to Governor Fubara were disqualified during the screening, while others reportedly linked to Wike and some recent defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) participated in the exercise.
