Olalekan Ajagungbade, a political ally of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been shot dead in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Ajagungbade, popularly known as “Emir” in political circles, was reportedly lured to a motor park in Ile-Ife under the guise of attending a meeting before he was shot in the head.

The incident has heightened tension in parts of the state, particularly around motor parks, amid an ongoing struggle for control of commercial transport activities.

Ajagungbade was reportedly involved in efforts to gain control of some motor parks in the state from the current leader of commercial drivers, Nurudeen Alowonle.

Following the killing, Governor Adeleke directed the Osun State Police Command and other security agencies to identify and arrest everyone connected with the incident.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor also ordered warring groups to immediately vacate the motor parks across the state.

Adeleke directed the immediate establishment of a Park Management System to restore order and discipline in the state's motor parks and garages.

He also called on residents to remain calm while directing security agencies to restore normalcy and prevent further breakdown of law and order.

The governor said an Executive Order would soon be issued to provide legal backing for the new park management system.

“Law and order must be maintained. There will be no sacred cows as all culprits will be brought to book. We call on members of the public to remain calm,” Adeleke said.

He added: “We will ensure restoration of peace in all the affected parks and areas. The security agencies are under instruction to ensure the sustainability of peace at all cost.

“We are reintroducing the Park Management System. I will soon issue an Executive Order to give effect to the new management system to manage parks and garages across the state.”
