Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau and several members of the federation's executive committee have reportedly resigned following mounting pressure over the administration of Nigerian football.

The reported resignations come after months of criticism over the country's declining fortunes on the international stage, including the Super Falcons' historic failure to qualify for the FIFA Women's World Cup for the first time.

According to reports by Brila FM, the development was also confirmed by a senior member of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club with close ties to the NFF president.

The federation is also facing increased scrutiny from security agencies over the management of public funds allocated to the country's national teams.

Reports indicate that the Department of State Services (DSS) has joined other security agencies in investigating the utilisation of the N17 billion intervention fund approved by President Bola Tinubu in 2024 to settle outstanding salaries and bonuses owed to national team players and officials.

The investigation comes amid growing concerns over the performance of Nigeria's national teams, with the Super Eagles missing consecutive FIFA World Cup tournaments and the Super Falcons suffering a series of disappointing results.

Nigeria's women's team exited the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations after a 1-0 quarter-final defeat to Cameroon, ending their title defence and missing automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.

The Super Falcons later failed to secure a World Cup ticket after losing 2-1 to South Africa's Banyana Banyana in the qualification playoffs, bringing an end to Nigeria's record of appearing at every FIFA Women's World Cup since the competition began in 1991.

The poor results intensified calls for sweeping changes within the NFF, with the Gusau-led executive committee facing sustained pressure from football stakeholders.

Reports say eight members of the 13-member NFF executive board have resigned, a development that could have significant implications for the federation's elective congress scheduled for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The NFF had not officially commented on the reported resignations at the time of filing this report.
