President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the appointment takes effect from August 27, 2026.
Enitan will succeed Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to retire from the Federal Civil Service after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60.
The new Head of Service, an indigene of Osun State, is currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education and is the most senior permanent secretary in the service.
He has served as a Permanent Secretary for more than seven years, holding key positions in the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, the Office of the Vice President and the Federal Ministry of Education.
President Tinubu said Enitan brings extensive institutional experience and a deep understanding of the operations of the Federal Civil Service to his new role.
The President also expressed appreciation to the outgoing Head of the Civil Service, Mrs. Walson-Jack, for her dedicated service and contributions to reforms and innovations within the civil service.
He wished her a successful retirement and thanked her for her years of service to the nation.
Tinubu charged the incoming Head of Service to consolidate ongoing reforms, strengthen professionalism and improve efficiency across the Federal Civil Service.
He also urged Enitan to build a merit-driven, accountable, innovative and responsive civil service capable of supporting the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda.
Born on December 12, 1966, Enitan attended Ajibode Grammar School, Ibadan, and the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife, before obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Finance and Banking from the University of Lagos in 1988.
He later earned a Master's degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia, in 2015.
