The Federal High Court has sentenced former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to a total of 75 years in prison for his involvement in the diversion of N33.8 billion earmarked for the Zungeru and Mambilla hydroelectric power projects.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecuted Mamman, alleging that he colluded with ministry officials, private companies, and Bureau de Change operators to siphon the funds.
Delivering judgment, Justice James Omotosho convicted Mamman on all counts and ordered that the sentences run consecutively, bringing the total to 75 years. The court ruled that the sentence would take effect from the date of his arrest, noting that the defendant was absent during the proceedings and is currently at large.
The judge further directed all security agencies, including Interpol, to apprehend the convict wherever he may be found.
In addition, the court ordered the forfeiture of all recovered funds and properties to the Federal Government. Mamman was also directed to pay the outstanding balance of N22 billion allegedly linked to the Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric projects.
The former minister is facing a separate case at the FCT High Court in Maitama over allegations of diverting N31 billion connected to the Mambilla Power Project.
