The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) has fixed Saturday, September 26, 2026, for elections into the 27 Local Government Area chairmanship positions and 305 Ward Councillorship seats across the state.
The commission said the polls would be conducted in 4,758 polling units across the 27 local government areas.
In a statement issued at the weekend and signed by the ISIEC Chairman, Chief Charles Ejiogu, the commission said the date was in line with the 360-day Notice of Election issued on September 18, 2025.
According to ISIEC, the notice was issued pursuant to Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, as amended.
The commission said consultations with critical stakeholders were ongoing as preparations for the elections continued.
Ejiogu urged all registered political parties in the state to take note of the election date and make the necessary preparations.
Meanwhile, Governor Hope Uzodimma has approved the appointment of 27 Local Government Prosperity Coordinators and 305 Ward Prosperity Officers.
The appointments were announced in a letter issued by the Special Adviser and Chief Political Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs, Chief Perry Opara.
The newly appointed coordinators and officers are expected to operate at the local government and ward levels as part of the administration's political and grassroots coordination structure.
