The Federal Ministry of Education has directed the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (Federal University of Technology Owerri), Prof. Ikechukwu Dozie, to immediately withdraw the appointment of 24 aides attached to his office.

The directive was contained in a letter dated June 25 and signed by the Acting Director of University Education in the ministry, Dr O. L. Kareem, on behalf of the Federal Government.

The ministry described the appointments, made via a memorandum issued on June 22, as inconsistent with established regulations governing federal universities. It said its review showed that due process and existing guidelines for such appointments were not followed.

According to the letter, the vice-chancellor is required to reverse the appointments without delay and submit evidence of compliance to the ministry.

It also directed Prof. Dozie to appear before ministry officials in Abuja on June 29 for further discussions on issues bordering on institutional governance, administrative accountability, and adherence to due process in federal tertiary institutions.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to transparency, prudent management, and strict compliance with regulations across the university system.

Copies of the directive were also sent to the National Universities Commission (NUC) for information and necessary action.
