Afrobeats star Davido has defended his decision to spotlight Nigeria’s insecurity challenges on the global stage, insisting that the country\'s security crisis should be confronted rather than concealed.

The singer was reacting to criticism from popular Hausa musician Rarara, who accused him of portraying Nigeria negatively and indirectly promoting terrorism after he used the 2026 FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert to draw attention to abducted schoolchildren and teachers.

Davido had appeared at the international event wearing a jacket emblazoned with the names of victims kidnapped in Oyo State and used the occasion to appeal for their safe release.

Responding to the backlash, the award-winning entertainer maintained that genuine patriotism requires citizens to speak out against injustice and insecurity rather than remain silent while innocent people suffer.

According to him, no Nigerian who truly cares about the country should discourage others from raising concerns about the worsening security situation affecting communities across the nation.

β€œAnyone who is passionate about Nigeria will not remain silent on the insecurity that is plaguing the country, nor will they prevent others from expressing their concerns about it,” Davido stated.

He also took a swipe at individuals who prioritise political interests over national realities, arguing that loyalty to political causes should never outweigh the responsibility to tell the truth and advocate for vulnerable citizens.

The singer warned against allowing partisan considerations to overshadow the plight of victims of kidnapping and violence, stressing that human lives must come before political calculations.

Davido urged Nigerians to demonstrate courage and sincerity in addressing issues confronting the country, noting that confronting difficult truths is necessary for national progress.

β€œBe passionate about your country, stop giving preference to politics over the truth, and fear God in all you do,” he added.

His remarks have further fuelled public debate over whether drawing international attention to Nigeria’s security challenges helps mobilise action or unfairly damages the nation’s image abroad.

Supporters of the music star argue that his advocacy has amplified the voices of victims and highlighted an urgent humanitarian crisis that deserves global attention.

Others, however, share Rarara’s position that national challenges should be addressed in a manner that does not project the country negatively before an international audience.

The exchange between the two entertainers has continued to generate widespread reactions on social media, reflecting deep divisions over the role of celebrities in speaking out on sensitive national issues.

As the debate rages on, Davido remains firm in his position that insecurity must be confronted openly, insisting that silence is not an option when the lives of innocent Nigerians are at stake.
