The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has reported that an engine anomaly prompted the emergency diversion of an Arik Air Boeing 737-700 during a scheduled flight on 11 February 2026.
According to a preliminary report released by the Bureau, the aircraft, registered 5N-MJF, was en route from Murtala Muhammed International Airport to Obafemi Jeremiah Awolowo International Airport when the flight crew reported an abnormal engine event.
The crew promptly activated emergency procedures and diverted the flight to Benin, the nearest suitable airport, where the aircraft landed safely. All passengers and crew disembarked without injury.
Funke Arowojobe, Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance at NSIB, stated that the preliminary report compiles factual information from flight crew statements, air traffic control communications, flight recorders, and an initial examination of the aircraft.
The Bureau emphasised that investigations are ongoing, with further technical assessments being conducted to determine the cause of the incident.
βThe information presented in this preliminary report is subject to further review and analysis. The final report will provide conclusions and safety recommendations,β the statement read.
