Defence Headquarters Reports Attempted Hack of Official X Account

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed an attempted breach of its official X (formerly Twitter) account, assuring the public that efforts are underway to secure the platform and restore full control.

In a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the DHQ said the incident is being treated as a cybersecurity issue and that appropriate technical measures have been activated to prevent further unauthorised access.

The military urged members of the public, the media and other stakeholders to disregard any suspicious, misleading or unauthorised posts that may appear on the account while recovery efforts continue.

According to the statement, the Defence Headquarters remains committed to maintaining high standards of information security and providing accurate, timely and credible information on the activities of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The DHQ assured the public that updates would be provided as necessary and encouraged Nigerians to rely on its verified communication channels for official information.

It listed its active platforms as Facebook (Defence Headquarters Nigeria), Instagram (@defencehq) and its official WhatsApp Channel, Defence Headquarters Nigeria, pending the restoration of the X account.:::
