The Force Headquarters has directed six Commissioners of Police (CPs) to submit their retirement notices to the Police Service Commission (PSC) for allegedly attaining the statutory retirement age of 60 years.
The directive reportedly followed the refusal of the affected senior officers to retire in accordance with public service regulations, with some of them allegedly lobbying for promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs).
A police signal conveying the order was circulated to the affected officers and relevant departments and formations, including the Police Service Commission, Department of Finance and Accounts, Police Zone 7 Command, Police Academy (POLAC), Police Training Schools and the Department of Training and Development.
The signal, titled “Discharge and Retirement” and referenced INGENPOL/FORSEC Abuja – DTO 020749/11/2026, specifically directed the officers to submit individual notices of retirement.
It stated: “INGENPOL warns you and directs under-listed Commissioners of Police to submit individual notices of retirement, having attained mandatory statutory retirement age of 60 years.”
The officers listed include Commissioners of Police Adamu Elleman, Abdullateef Adamu, Titilayo Lasisi, Markus Ishaku Basiran and Sylvester Oniye Ozoefuna, with one other officer whose name was not provided in the available list.
The signal also supplied dates of birth for the six officers as January 5, 1958; January 28, 1963; January 17, 1966; January 25, 1965; September 2, 1966; and April 25, 1964, respectively.
The directive further referenced a letter forwarded to the Police Service Commission with reference number PSC/2116/111/26.
However, discrepancies in the signal have raised questions about the accuracy of the information. Although six officers were reportedly affected, only five names appeared in the list, while the dates of birth provided indicate that just one of them was born before 1960.
The inconsistencies could not be reconciled from the information contained in the signal, leaving the actual identities and retirement eligibility of all the affected officers requiring clarification.
