A fire outbreak on Saturday engulfed the headquarters of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria in Abuja, causing panic as flames spread across the upper floors of the building.
The fire reportedly began on the fourth floor of the bank's headquarters, located opposite the Central Bank of Nigeria headquarters, before rapidly extending to the top section of the structure.
Eyewitnesses said firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene and battled to contain the blaze to prevent it from spreading further.
A Facebook user, Praises Chukwu, who shared photographs of the incident online, said the fire service personnel were making frantic efforts to extinguish the flames, although the fire continued to spread across the upper floors of the building.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire remained unknown, while there was no official confirmation of casualties or the extent of damage to the property.
Authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as emergency responders continued efforts to bring the situation under control and assess the impact of the fire.
