Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has declared that the forthcoming governorship election cannot be rigged, insisting that the votes of the people will determine the outcome of the August 15 poll.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Oke Ila, Ifedayo Local Government Area on Monday, Adeleke dismissed claims that some politicians were plotting to manipulate the election, maintaining that Osun voters would protect their mandate.
The governor said his administration enjoys widespread support across the state because of its performance in office, adding that while his campaign is connecting with the people, opponents are relying on intimidation and political rhetoric.
According to him, the people of Osun are determined to vote and defend their votes, stressing that attempts to intimidate voters would not succeed. He urged residents to remain peaceful, vigilant and committed to the democratic process.
Adeleke also highlighted his administration\'s achievements, saying his government had transformed major towns and was extending development projects to rural communities across the state.
Earlier, at the palaces of the traditional rulers of Ora Igbomina and Oke Ila, the governor received commendation for his administration\'s developmental strides. The Ajagunla Ifagbamila Orangun of Oke Ila, Oba Adedokun Abolarin, praised the government for delivering democratic dividends and proposed the establishment of tourism and sporting facilities in Ifedayo due to its favourable terrain.
Addressing supporters at the rally, Adeleke cautioned voters against selling their Permanent Voter Cards or votes, insisting that rumours of election rigging and violence were intended to create fear.
He expressed confidence that his party would emerge victorious, saying the election would reflect the true wishes of the people.
The rally was attended by Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, members of the National and State Assemblies, campaign officials, party leaders and other top government functionaries.
