Court Dismisses Suit Seeking Recognition of Turaki-Led PDP Committee

Delivering judgment on Friday, Justice Salim Ibrahim held that the plaintiffs, led by Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, lacked the legal standing to institute the action.

The judge consequently struck out the suit for want of jurisdiction after upholding the preliminary objection filed by INEC.

Justice Ibrahim also sustained similar objections raised by parties that sought to be joined in the case, agreeing that the action was incompetent.

The court ruled that the plaintiffs failed to establish that INEC had recognised the purported interim National Working Committee or that they possessed the legal authority to institute the suit on behalf of the PDP.

The decision effectively brings an end to the legal challenge seeking judicial recognition of the Kabiru Turaki-led interim leadership of the opposition party.
