The Rivers State Police Command has advised residents of Kporghor Community in Tai Local Government Area not to panic over loud explosions expected during the planned destruction of expired explosive materials by Halliburton Energy Services Nigeria Limited.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, disclosed that the company had received official approval to safely dispose of expired explosive materials in its custody after they were inspected and certified unserviceable by relevant experts.
According to the statement, the disposal exercise is scheduled to take place from Wednesday, July 8, to Friday, July 10, 2026, at Kporghor Community.
The police said the operation would be supervised by personnel of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit, Port Harcourt, to ensure it is conducted in line with established safety procedures.
The command explained that the exercise is aimed at safely rendering the expired explosives harmless and eliminating potential risks associated with their storage.
Residents of the host community and neighbouring areas were urged to remain calm throughout the operation, as all necessary safety measures have been put in place to safeguard lives and property.
The command also reassured the public that the exercise poses no threat to the surrounding communities and appealed for cooperation throughout the scheduled disposal period.
