In a press statement issued on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Cole said his decision followed extensive consultations with members of his political team, supporters, and key stakeholders within the party.

The former APC governorship candidate explained that the move was made in the interest of unity, peace, and collective progress within the Rivers State chapter of the APC.

Cole noted that the national leadership of the party recently convened a stakeholders’ meeting where discussions were held on the future of the party in Rivers State and the need to present a united front ahead of the elections.

According to him, his withdrawal reflects his belief in strong democratic institutions and respect for the supremacy of the party.

He pledged his full support and cooperation to whoever emerges as the APC candidate after the primaries, stressing that the decision was made after deep reflection and commitment to the stability and growth of the party.

The APC chieftain also appreciated party faithful, women groups, youths, elders, and supporters across Rivers State for standing by him throughout his political journey.

Cole urged his supporters to remain peaceful and cooperate with the leadership of the APC as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Rivers State and expressed readiness to continue working for the success of the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
