The presidential visit featured the inauguration of four key projects executed by the Diri administration, including a 60-megawatt gas turbine power project aimed at boosting electricity supply and driving economic growth in the state.

Following his return to Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara proceeded to Beth-El Anglican Church in Koroma, Tai Local Government Area, where he joined family members, political associates and well-wishers at a solemn service of songs in honour of the late Senator Barinada Mpigi.

The memorial event was marked by deep reflection, unity and heartfelt tributes, as attendees celebrated the life and legacy of the former lawmaker who represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District.

In his remarks, Governor Fubara described the late senator as a principled leader who lived a straightforward life and remained a steadfast fighter for his people. He noted that Senator Mpigi would be remembered for his impactful contributions and enduring legacy.

“I had an engagement in Bayelsa, an event beyond my control, but what is most important is that I am here to pay my last respects to a senator who represented my senatorial district,” the governor said.

Fubara acknowledged that while gatherings such as the service of songs provide comfort, only God can truly console the bereaved family and fill the void left by the late senator’s passing.

Reflecting on the inevitability of death, the governor added that while many aspects of life are within human control, death remains the ultimate end that no one can alter.

He further noted that he had earlier conveyed his thoughts in a condolence message, emphasizing that his sentiments about the late senator’s life and character had already been fully expressed.

Governor Fubara concluded by reiterating that Senator Mpigi’s legacy of service, courage and integrity would continue to inspire, stressing that his contributions to public life would not be forgotten.
